7th Grade – Rooms in One Point Perspective

Seventh graders viewed and discussed interiors painted by Vincent Van Gogh, paying special attention to a painting of his bedroom, which was done in one point perspective. They then created their own rooms in one point perspective after watching a step-by-step demonstration. First they practiced by drawing simple shapes such cubes and then they moved on to drawing more challenging objects and spaces.

Each room reflects the interests of the student who created it. They were encouraged to create a “fantasy room”, filling it with the furniture they wanted and the color scheme that they desired. They were also encouraged to use shading to create the illusion of shadow and depth.
